Our “odyssey through the wonders” of Parisian Haute Couture begins with the Maison Schiaparelli, transporting us to distant lands with their mysterious and sensual woman. Mythology inspires the white cape-dress, embroidered with mother-of-pearl lilies and irises, one of the many bridal looks with which the show has ended. Christian Dior brings us an endless range of “white dresses”: from a masculine outfit with a fitted jacket to a “cage” dress with incredible embroidery or a hooded cape covered with flowers. Contemporary surrealism features in Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collection: halfway between a dream and reality, with visual effects and optical illusions using black and white graphics.
The backdrop for Chanel in the Grand Palais in Paris is an ode to nature. A rose garden with ponds and flowers in bloom plays host to a modern, feminine collection: rigid shapes interspersed with soft outlines, decorated with floral motifs created using crystals and transparencies. Feathers bring poetry to the pale pink mini dresses and the candid two piece trouser suit.

Floral creations too by Ralph & Russo, bringing to the catwalks various features with a vision of the Middle East: organza petals, ostrich feathers, fringes, crystals, hand-painted motifs, tassels and mother of pearl. The palette of colours ranges from the most intense tones to pastel shades and white mixed with gold. Alexis Mabille also uses gold, together with ivory and light brown, for dresses with flowing lines and with a slightly retro feel that give way to voluminous satin skirts.

The show by Giambattista Valli at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in the Petit Palais is pure poetry. Tunics and peplos inspired by Greek and Roman goddesses and party dresses with floral motifs inspired by the wildness of nature, described in the book The Wild Garden. To finish off, the supersize dresses with 350 metres of pleated tulle. Very clean lines in the collection by Givenchy, which redefine the silhouette, highlighting its femininity. The celebrated dressmaking by this Maison, and the exquisite fabrics used, bring to life a romantic collection with wonderful personality.

Elie Saab transports us to Paris of the1920s with a sensual display of the soul: very delicate chiffon, lamé with metallic reflections, transparencies, embroidery and feathers. Zuhair Murad also opts for feathers with a collection inspired by the traditions of Native Americans. In contrast, by Valentino we discover looks with architectural lines, with oversize taffeta bows and frills and delicate, tulle dresses in pastel shades.
