Bridal Times had the opportunity to speak with Nathalie Zenker, owner of “SAY YES”. She tells us about her exclusive bridal shop in the city of Munich, current trends and about opening her new bridal shop \u201cLittle Broutlet\u201d in the middle of the pandemic.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What inspired you to open your first bridal shop, “SAY YES\u201c and how long have you been in business?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Through my fashion journalism studies at the AMD in Munich, it was completely clear to me that I would like to work in fashion, design and be surrounded by aesthetics. Until July 2015, I worked for various women’s magazines such as COSMOPOLITAN and COVER as a fashion editor. However, there was always a desire in my heart to have something of my own. Since I come from an entrepreneurial family, my parents and my two brothers are self-employed, the idea for SAY YES was born in October 2015 and we opened the boutique in May 2016.<\/p>\n

Tell us what the bride can discover in your bridal shop and what makes “SAY YES” so unique?<\/strong><\/p>\n

First of all, it was important to me to enter a very own, exclusive world when walking into our boutique. Our concept is an elegant interior design, a small collection of selected brands, but above all, the feeling of having the whole bridal shop and the consultant to yourself. Just escape from everyday life for a few hours and allow the bride to have an unforgettable experience.<\/p>\n

“SAY YES” in Munich<\/p><\/div>\n

Tell us about the \u201cMunich\u201d bride. Is there a particular trend or style that is popular in Bavaria at the moment?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Munich bride is rarely a real “M\u00fcnchener Kindl” (Munich Native). For a variety of reasons, Munich is a city that attracts a large number of different people, making it extremely demanding. For one, our customers have already traveled the world for job related reasons, so the horizon is very wide but quality is also the top priority. The budget is accordingly high. Interestingly, no matter where a Munich bride’s home is, they have emotionally grown into the surroundings. Many weddings take place idyllically on alpine pastures, in country hotels or barns. So its a wonderful mix of sophisticated design around the world in a tranquil setting. The world, at home in Munich.<\/p>\n

Can you share your personal favorite bridal trend at the moment?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s not that easy because two hearts are beating at the same time. I am fascinated by elaborate dresses, feathers, fascinating prints and embroidery or elaborate lace. However, if I had to decide, minimalism is my personal highlight regardless of the shape. Expansive or slim cut, simple and elegant dresses capture me every time.<\/p>\n

And congratulations on the opening of \u201cLittle Broutlet\u201d! Tell us about “Little Broutlet\u201d and how it differs from “SAY YES” in Munich?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our little outlet for bridal fashion has developed into the little sister of SAY YES. First of all, the price range is completely different. We are trying to keep the gowns, all previous collections at SAY YES,\u00a0 below the 1000 euro limit. Other items close to the heart is cool jewelry, special headpieces and other accessories. You don’t have to be a bride to enjoy these items. A cool bag? Even for a wedding guest? Then the Little Broutlet is the right place for you.<\/p>\n

“Little Broutlet” in Munich<\/p><\/div>\n

How did you decide to open \u201cLittle Broutlet\u201d in such difficult times? Did you experience any major challenges in launching the business during the pandemic?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our small store was about to open in March. The crisis-related lockdown put a damper in the works. We have two very wonderful ladies on site, both former SAY YES brides, who now work there and offer advice. It quickly became clear to all of us that we would only open the \u201cLittle Broutlet\u201d from Thursday to Saturday. We still have to wait and see how business develops. It is particularly positive that the Little Broutlet has dresses to “take away” and we can also help brides who are dependent on a spontaneous wedding due to the crisis.<\/p>\n

What is the biggest adjustment you had to make to keep a safe environment in your bridal shop? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks to our concept at SAY YES which has fitting by appointment only, its already an exclusive bridal shop anyway so there were no major challenges. We are now only leaving more space between appointments so that we can disinfect the business premises after and before each customer. For me, the biggest change is wearing the protective mask every day. It is much more difficult to assess the emotions of the bride and their companions. Shiny eyes are nice, but it also goes with a smile.<\/p>\n

“Little Broutlet” in Munich<\/p><\/div>\n

With 2 bridal shops in operation during a crises, what you are your hopes for the bridal industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I honestly hope that the oversupply of bridal fashion will decrease somewhat. White dresses for weddings feel omnipresent. Even large fashion chains are offering bridal wear alongside typical fashion. I am convinced that these bridal designs belong in a specialist shop with competent advice.<\/p>\n

What is your advice to brides who had to cancel their weddings this year?<\/strong><\/p>\n

As with probably every bridal shop, we maintain a particularly close relationship with our customers and therefore I often hold these kind of conversations. My advice for the newlyweds who have had to postpone their wedding is, not to lose their joy or give their wedding a bland aftertaste. As in Sleeping Beauty, things should be left alone to sleep and then kissed back awake again with the same enthusiasm. In the end, this special day should only be about the bride and groom and due to the current situation there are some restrictions, so the postponed wedding is certainly the right decision. The planned wedding is just as beautiful if it takes place on a different date.<\/p>\n

And as an entrepreneur, what is the best piece of advice you have ever received in running a business?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The most valuable advice is to do your own thing and concentrate on your “concept and your own vision”. “How do I want to run my business and advise my customers?” It is of little use to look left or right at other concepts and possibly adapt. If you want to run your business successfully, it is important to stay true to your idea and to be 100% behind it.<\/p>\n
