Men however, have always stood before the altar in the same old suit, right?<\/p>\n
\u201cFar from it\u201d, says Jo Meurer, designer of the Wilvorst European men\u2019s fashion label in an exclusive interview with Bridal Times. A suit is still called suit, but the models Meurer designed two decades ago at his established company, are no longer the same as they used to be.<\/p>\n
“At the beginning of my time, the vest was not compulsory yet. Today, a groom without this piece of clothing is simply no longer perfectly dressed, “says the 61-year-old renowned designer. Quitting the profession is not on this designer’s mind as Meurer added, “Armani is 82 years old, Lagerfeld brings it to 74 years. Luckily there is no expiration date for the passionate in the fashion industry.”<\/p>\n
When looking back on the development of the vest, the designer from Munich jovially explains, “At the beginning it felt special to wear a vest. Today, every end customer can wear it to express parts of his individuality. From models in Baroque optics to 3D patterns in all varieties, color palettes and not to mention the countless fabric variants. I have new variants with a collar, models with six to eight buttons and countless more.\u201d \u00a0These innovations have steadily developed in time for the 2018 season and every year, men have become a little bit more adventurous.<\/p>\n
What has also changed within the last 20 years is the groom’s necktie. “There were initially no conceivable alternatives for the wedding party as the wide tie neckerchief. Four years ago, the broad tie model was mainly in demand and the trend moved towards narrower ties,” explains Meurer, who is also a professor teaching design at the University of Trier.<\/p>\n
In the coming season the wide tie models are making a comeback as well as the Fly, which has completely lost its stiff image. “Today it stands for innovation and avant-garde. The men wear them today, without coming off as stiff,\u201d said Meurer. In the last two years, they have been preferably combined with two-tone pocket handkerchiefs.<\/p>\n

In terms of color of suits in recent years, Meurer adds, “After we survived the era of brown, the movement towards blue began around seven years ago.” This has been replaced in recent years with the colors pearl or silver tones.<\/p>\n
“New in Trend is the suit in Barolo Red. A black and red, for anyone who enjoys to drink a glass of wine,” said Meurer with a laugh. But this congenial designer does not take his inspiration from evening drinks. “I am always subconsciously searching for what truly moves me. I don\u2019t consider this work.
